About us

Apple Tree Literary was founded in 2024 by Max Edwards, and represents a diverse range of authors writing non-fiction and fiction.

Our authors are New York Times, Sunday Times and USA Today bestsellers, and have won, or been shortlisted for, awards including the Baillie Gifford Prize for non-fiction, the Nero Awards, the William Hill Sports Book of the Year, the James Tait Black Award, the World Fantasy Awards, the Clarke Awards, the BSFA Awards, and many more. In addition, our clients have won Oscars, Grammys, Press Association Awards, the Magnitsky Human Rights Award, and many more besides.

The agency is run by Max Edwards, a hands-on, creative and energetic agent with a decade of experience in agenting. Having worked at agencies including RCW, United Agents, and David Higham Associates, Max was a founding agent at Aevitas Creative Management UK, working as agent there for five years prior to founding Apple Tree Literary.

Named a Bookseller Rising Star in 2021, Max has established himself as one of the pre-eminent agents for serious and narrative non-fiction writers in the UK, as well as a leading agent of literary and speculative fiction. His authors include a number of world-renowned academics, journalists, politicians, high-profile memoirists, and novelists, particularly in the speculative space. With a strong eye for authors with unique insight, ideas, and influence, he has a fantastic sense of what appeals to both publishers and consumers, and works very closely with his authors editorially.

Each Apple Tree Literary author is unique – they have different objectives, different approaches, different personalities and strengths. We know that your book is unique to you, and so we tailor our approach to our clients as individuals. It is only by working with each client in the way that best suits them can they receive the expertise, enthusiasm, and results that they deserve.

Apple Tree Literary works with an international roster of authors, with clients in the UK, Ireland, Australia, USA and Canada, as well those based in Denmark, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, Germany and beyond. We handle publishing rights in the English language directly, and have incredibly strong relationships with publishers across the English speaking world.

Apple Tree Literary also works closely with Randle Editorial and Literary Consultancy in handling translation rights for its authors.
